Roasters is a place whose identities have bounced between extremes over the years, with no real harm done. Now that a number of other local coffee joints have popped up, this requires more consideration.

I’m from the north side of town, and didn’t even know Roasters (or really anything past Adams street) existed until high school. I never went there at the time, but I did remember that funky old type that was on the building. It was campy, but memorable ( look it up ). The more recent version, with the simple coffee cup, is cleaner and more adaptable, and had the right idea, but it’s still not the right solution, for a couple reasons: the cup isn’t stylized enough to really be a logo (not memorable), and the font used presents awkward type issues, along with the situation of having a logo of a cup, on a cup. Sometimes, it’s hard to avoid doing this type of thing – I’ve done it before, but it’s not ideal.
