Scotland is a very white country. Edinburgh is a very white city. Teaching is a very white profession.
Just 1.3% of all primary teachers and only 0.6% of ‘promoted posts’ (principle teachers, depute headteachers, headteachers) in Scotland are people of colour. This compares to 2.1% of all secondary teachers and just 0.8% of ‘promoted posts’ in Scotland are people of colour. This compares to 4% in the Scottish population as a whole and 8.3% of students in Scotland being classified as Asian, Caribbean, African, Black, Mixed or Other.
