The Argyll and Bute Union was originally founded to represent male golfers in the area and to promote the game of golf. The ABGU is one of the 16 member areas that make up that along with the ladies counties and member clubs which form Scottish Golf.
Scottish Golf is the governing body for amateur golf in Scotland incorporating more than 630 golf clubs across the country.
Based in Rosyth, Scottish Golf's responsibilities span across most aspects of the game in Scotland, from its original core business of staging national amateur championships and managing Scotland’s national teams, expanding to encouraging more youngsters to play golf, providing support services to member clubs and lobbying government to protect the interests of the game.
