While this mnemonic is not necessarily an historic etymology, it IS an accurate description of how this word and the bad deed to which it refers have been used in language and in history. The problematic attempt at re-appropriation of power by victims acting out the part of the oppressor, gives a temporary illusion of control, but eventually perpetuates both oppression and victimhood.
