I woke up on Wednesday to urgent cries from Alex. Still groggy, it took me a while to understand what was going on. He was holding a plastic stick. He was worried. Oh. OH. I got out of bed, and looked at the two pink lines on the stick. That’s never happened before.
I don’t remember what I said to Alex. Something along the lines of “Oh, shit…” or “Fuck….” certainly, but I can’t remember my exact phrases. He probably does. He remembers everything.
The next few minutes were very panicked, as we expressed very scared and uncertain feelings with each other. I didn’t know what to do. Kids were never a part of my plan. Some people grow up and they have certain ideas as to what they want their life to look like when they’re older. I never really grew up with the desire to settle down and have kids. This is something I’ve told Alex quite often over the course of the 8 years we’ve been together.
