In a study of the Birth Center model , done in 2013, 15,574 birthing persons were included in a study of outcomes, methods of being born, transfer rates, and maternal mortality. The study found that of those in the study, 84% went on to give birth in the birth center, 4% transferred care before they were admitted to the birth center, and 12% transferred after admission.
