With a focus on public safety, housing, and addressing homelessness, Carlos is committed to improving the quality of life for all residents.
Public safety is Carlos’s number one priority. As promised, he has supported increased staffing and patrols. He has also held community policing meetings to address the concerns of his constituents and give them direct access to top officials, including the police chief.
Carlos has stuck to his to principles in fighting for the right kind of housing in Santa Maria. He is the only Councilmember to vote against giveaways to large, out-of-town developers who build high-rent units and don’t contribute to the community. Their projects are easily approved by the City Council, and even amidst a nearly $20 million city budget shortfall, developers receive a 50% discount on the purchase of city land and building permits downtown.
