Carmyllie Heritage Society was founded in 2009 with the purpose of exploring and recording the rich history of Carmyllie in Angus and to raise public awareness of Carmyllie as a source of historic value.
The name 'Carmyllie' is made up of Gaelic words meaning either 'the top of a rocky or bare place' or 'a fort on a rocky place'.
It is situated in the county of Angus, Scotland and is bounded by the parishes of Monikie, Arbirlot, St Vigeans, Inverkeilor and Dunnichen. Carmyllie parish measures approximately five by three miles and, within the parish, there are two villages, Redford and Greystone. There is a community hall, built in 1960, and a War Memorial, both positioned nearer the centre of the parish.
