I am passionate about sheltering for animals. When I first began my life as a shelter medicine I said I began that calling for the animals. Since that time I have learned that I stay for the people. My mission is to make a difference for shelter animals and people of the sheltering community,
Shelter animals need to be assured that every effort is made to meet the Five Freedoms. Particular attention is necessary for freedoms 4 and 5. The freedom from fear and distress and the freedom to exhibit normal behavior.
Shelter staff spend their entire work day caring for animals. Believe it or not it is incredibly stressful to be an animal caregiver. Developing skill sets is critical. Shelter animals need care from staff that is trained and feels confident and competent in their skills
