The Central Alberta Bar Society (“CABS”) is a professional, voluntary organization whose membership comprises lawyers, judges and law students in the Central Alberta region. The Society acts as a liaison between its members and the Courts, government, the Law Society of Alberta, and the Canadian Bar Association. CABS provides a voice on issues of significance to both the legal profession and the public.
CABS members are involved in organizing ongoing continuing professional development on topics of interest to the local bar. Past initiatives include the founding of the Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic, which relies on local volunteer and staff lawyers. CABS was an active and public advocate for the new Red Deer Justice Centre, scheduled to open in 2024. CABS is currently fundraising to furnish the new Barrister’s Lounge, which will be a gathering place for resident and visiting legal professionals.
