To the front of The Manor, there is a formal lawn and balustrade beyond which stretches parkland and a lake. To the south, there are more formal gardens including a parterre, Lime walk, Rose arches, Yew walk, Hydrangea walk, a stepped water garden and a ‘Wilderness’ containing many rare shrubs and trees. Beyond the ‘The Wilderness’ is a Nuttery and Pinetum.
The gardens are naturally set on different levels so from each there are tantalising glimpses of others. There are some unusual plants in these gardens including some 20 varieties of Magnolia, and uncounted varieties of Camelia. Rhodedendron, Hydrangeas, and Cornus.
In the north of the house, within brick walls, there is an orchard and beyond that, a formal vegetable garden. To the rear of the house there are more herbaceous borders, a fern garden, a lawn and pond surrounded by rose swags and dominated by a magnificent 100 year old Acer palmatium. There are also many paths providing walks through the woods and around the lake.
