The First Church of Christ, Scientist, San Antonio is a Christian Science church located near Downtown San Antonio, Texas. Christian Science was discovered in 1866 by Mary Baker Eddy in Lynn, Massachusetts, following a physical healing that she experienced as a result of her prayers and the dedicated study of the Bible. By 1875, she published the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. In 1879, Mrs. Eddy founded the Christian Science church “… to commemorate the words and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” (Church Manual, p. 11)
