French cellist Christophe Mathias share his activity between performing and teaching, between France and Germany. His membership with the contemporary Ensemble Interface bring him to appear in most leading avant-garde festivals, such as Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, Ultraschall Berlin, Wien Modern, June in Buffalo NY (USA). A member of the 2008/09 International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt, he performed as a member of the Lucerne Festival Academy under the direction of Pierre Boulez in 2007/09. Christophe Mathias’s principal teachers include Marc Coppey and Philippe Muller in Paris and Jean-Guihen Queyras in Stuttgart. He furthered his studies in masterclasses with Christoph Henkel, Anner Bylsma, Dmitry Ferschtmann and Rohan de Saram.
Christophe Mathias is a founding member of Ensemble Interface. This international collective of musicians is committed to contemporary music through performance, educational activities and research. Ensemble Interface adopt a shared approach to artistic direction. Each member actively participates in the planning and development of its artistic programme.
