The Scottish Government introduced the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act in 2015. This summer much of that Act comes into power allowing communities and community bodies opportunities for participation in a wide range of local issues and initiatives including having greater control over things that matter to them be it community planning and services delivery or the right to buy certain assets. Government bodies and public services now also need to engage with communities and listen and respond to them.
Community Empowerment Scotland is a social enterprise set up to advise and to help enable communities, be they groups of individuals, charities or social enterprises, to engage more effectively with public bodies and public service providers and to maximise the opportunities provided by the Act. However we can also support and advise public agencies on how to respond to the new legislation and to build capacity and support empowerment at local and national level.
Whether you are a community body interested in taking over the running of a public service or acquiring assets in order to do so, or want to set up such a body, or a public authority needing help dealing with a participation request or any other aspect of the legislation our team of experts can help.
