A parallel corpus project: the papal bull Ineffabilis Deus in the languages of the world
In 1854, Pope Pius IX proclaimed the bull “Ineffabilis Deus” about the immaculate conception of the virgin Mary, a Latin document of theological and philosophical argumentation with an extension of 4485 tokens in the original version. During the following years, the French priest Marie-Dominique Sire collected translations of the text into the languages of the world. This project aims to make the corpus texts accessible for linguistic research. The first phase aims at publishing 55 European languages and varieties. The texts are currently transcribed from the original manuscripts at the Vatican Library.
