Founded more than forty years ago, the Denver Islamic Society (DIS, Masjid Al Nur) has made tremendous impact thanks to the help of members and volunteers in the Denver community. As an Islamic center serving as a masjid and a gathering place for the Muslim community in Denver and the larger metropolitan area, DIS consists of three story-building providing separate prayer halls for men and women, a multipurpose meeting area, nearly 4,000 sq. ft. of classrooms, office space, a library, and a warming kitchen.
Friday (juma) prayers are at 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM, with both sermons in Arabic and English. DIS hosts Eid prayers, Taraweeh during Ramadan, and observes Islamic holidays. Several hundred worshippers per week visit the mosque.
Similar to how in the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when the masjid was a central focus of the Muslim community and not just a prayer facility, our programs ensure we serve as a multipurpose family-centered institution.
