"The Americans sent Benjamin Franklin to France to round up some money for the revolution. And they gave it to him and America won the war."
That is about the extent of what children learn in schools today. Some magical action happened and France just gave a fortune to Franklin to spend as he wished. Franklin went back to America and everyone lived happily ever after and years later all had TVs and cell phones.
History has been cordial enough to preserve his actual points as laid out to the French. The Library of Congress has a copy and they are presented below in full.
