Orbit is a connected smartphone app specifically designed and tailored to the eScooter riding experience. The basic idea behind the app was one of the outcomes of a bigger and broader project we did in 2017, in which the aim was to figure out how to electrify a specific Asian market with eScooters. Essentially we realized that at current stage all existing apps and navigation concepts are designed for cars and do not really support the more flexible, go-with-the-flow way of 2-wheeler riding in particular
While riding, Orbit takes the role of a passive navigation system with the other main feature - compass mode . Compass mode is specifically designed studying the way people ride 2-wheelers in Asian cities and follows people's natural orientation paradigm. It gives orientation by providing the relative direction of personal and city landmarks circling on an orbit around the user's location - this is by the way the obvious reason for the app's naming. Orbit was publicly presented at EICMA in Milano and CES
Croc is the smart integration of the helmet as well as smartphone as HMI on the handlebar. The basic idea behind Croc was one of the outcomes of a bigger and broader project we did in 2017 to capture a new market with eScooters. The main part of this follow-on project was to test this initial concept idea, further explore the idea space and iteratively create a working prototype. Users in most countries are required to use helmets by law. Our fieldresearch showed that so far 2-wheelers do not have a smoot
