Communities across Michigan are home to local hospitals that are often the largest employers in the area. As good corporate and neighborhood citizens, hospitals invest in their communities from both inside and outside of their facilities. In addition to helping restore and support good health, healthcare-related practices and organizations provided  nearly 568,000 direct jobs  in Michigan in 2021; roughly  219,000 of those jobs were in hospitals.

This report illustrates the significant role healthcare plays in the well-being of the state’s economy. Compiled by the Partnership for Michigan’s Health, which consists of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association, the Michigan State Medical Society and the Michigan Osteopathic Association, the report uses data from fiscal year 2021, the most recent data available.

The report’s dashboard provides statewide data and breaks it down by region, county and congressional district. This interactive tool allows information to be viewed and printed for one county, region or congressional district.
