The hybrid mailroom: known to all, wanted by none. Today, meaningful information reaches us via many different paths, including hardcopy, emails and web forms. The day-to-day challenge facing every company is to standardise all of this information and to feed it into an electronic process. One particularly challenging situation, for example, is when a new customer registers online, sends in a copy of their passport by mail or as an email attachment, and the entire process must be completed within 24 hours.
Merging the different kinds of mail received into a digital process
The digital mailroom receives incoming correspondence in digital and physical form and creates digital, electronic versions of paper documents. Relevant content is automatically recorded and classified so that a rules-based system can be used to assign the documents to a workflow: this could be the inbox of an employee or of a team, or a specialised application for processing claims, applications or invoices, for example.
