eyecoder.com - Enhancement of the Spatial Perception in 3D Renderings & Photography through Adjustments and Transformations

Description: We offer solutions that remedy the noticeable and disturbing perspective distortions showing on 3D renderings and photographs. They are geometric deformations squishing or stretching the pictures constructed hence making them appear misshapen, weird, awkward, unnatural. Far away from the human vision whereas the goal making 3D graphics is to emulate how our eyes behold the environment. Perspective distortions can even in common cases lead a real sickness called Virtually Induced Motion Sickness abbreviated

3D renderings are impaired by geometrical flaws denoted as perspective distortions. They make the virtual space appear misshapen and unnatural. In our analysis, we’ve characterized eight symptoms of that phenomenon. Distortions are very perceptible and disturbing for users, even the unknowledgeable ones, preventing them from full immersion into the virtual scenes.

Distortions are inherent to the widely used perspective projection or any other mapping model such as the stereographic. The main reason why they exist lies in the discrepancy between the spherical retina on which images of what we see are mapped, and the planar projection surface on the other hand, on which images of virtual objects are mapped in 3D graphics according to the laws of perspective projection, that aims to replicate the human vision.

In Animations, especially real-time and interactive ones, e.g. gaming, the addition of the different distortion symptoms combined to their high-paced succession result in a far disproportionate amplification of movements on the display screen. Leading to a dizziness and drowsiness that can trigger the Virtually Induced Motion Sickness abbreviated as VIMS.
