There’s a massive amount of great whiskey on the shelf these days. I can write that and just be talking about the mainstream bourbon, rye , and Scotch whiskeys that you can find across the United States. Then you take a step back and look at the whole world — it begins to boggle the mind. There’s a whole-freaking-lot of really good whiskey out there, folks. Different ingredients, terroir, systems, and (most importantly) people are driving whiskey to new heights in pretty much every corner of the planet.
All of that is to say that it’s high time that I rank 50 of my favorite whiskeys from all over the world. But before I dive in, it’s important to note that this list is in no way exhaustive. I didn’t add in whiskeys from particular regions or countries to simply have them represented on this list. I’ve had whiskeys from Germany, Finland, Denmark, France, Italy, Thailand, South Africa, Belize, and so many other places but none of those particular products made this “best of” list. Here’s why:
