If you've never heard of the television series, HONEY VICARRO, you're not alone. The show premiered in the fall of 1966 on ABC, and caused an uproar, it's content outraging audiences from coast-to-coast. Triggering hundreds of angry editorials, the condemnation of the religious right, and threats by the FCC to suspend affiliates' broadcast licenses, the controversial series was immediately cancelled.
Shocking as it may seem, many of the visual characteristics we take for granted today on television --quick, MTV-style cutting and floating verité camera--were introduced by producer, Gavin Hurrell, in this seminal 1966 series. So, too, were the sophisticated, mature themes and content that pushed the boundaries of even some current pay-cable programming.
