Description: Jeannine Calcagno Niehaus creates hand thrown decorative and functional stoneware pottery in a floral Japanese style. Her pieces are reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts movement and blend a highly glazed slip decoration against a rich stoneware surface to achieve her distinctive style. Inspiration for forms and imagery comes from her extensive flower garden and trips to Japan and China. She has been a producing studio potter for over 35 years.

The theme is nature, the medium is clay. For over 50 years, working in clay has been my profession and my passion. The tradition of pottery can be traced throughout history and gives me a connection to the cultures of the world.
My work reflects a Japonesque style showing an emphasis on the beauty of nature and the attention to form.
