After news broke of plans to delist the Heritage Listed Jimna Fire Tower from the Queensland Heritage Register in early 2006, the Jimna Fire Tower Action Group (JFTAG) was formed because of the non existence of public consultation or prior notice of the Queensland Government’s intentions.
This iconic tower, the tallest of it’s type in the southern hemisphere, must be preserved for posterity. The Queensland Government has failed to recognise it’s duty to save this important piece of history for future generations to enjoy. Unless the people of Australia speak up now, yet another significant symbol of Australian Heritage will be lost forever. Time is of the essence.
After exhaustive consultation with professional advisors, it was concluded, that the only way to preserve the Jimna Fire Tower for eternity was, for it to be redeveloped into a self funding tourist attraction/destination . This concept to this day has never been evaluated despite the tower attracting in excess of 30,000 VISITORS annually prior to closure. Consequently the following mission statement was adopted.
