So when the Nasdaq closes at 4PM eastern, when companies post their results those specific stocks are volatile for about 20 to 30 minutes and begin to settle. Around 5 to 10 minutes after close, the general trend is evident. If it is going up, you can buy some stock at 4:10 pm and sell them at 4:20 pm. Usually for a profit. Or keep them until next morning. The pre market session will raise the price a bit more.
