kelly fincham / media research
I am the programme director for the BA Global Media at University of Galway in Ireland where we are helping equip students with the media and technology expertise they need to navigate a rapidly changing digital communications landscape. I teach modules ranging from media literacy to technology and media to data in the undergraduate and graduate programmes.
A former journalist, I now research journalism and I’m an expert on Western news organisations’ social media policies through my PhD work which focused on the impact of social media (primarily what used to be Twitter) on journalism practice and journalism education. I am currently working on two major pieces of research which consider social media usage in the context of “dark participation” and resulting ideas of best practice for women working in journalism, academia and politics.
