My KEYS family came from Alabama and settled in Oklahoma and Arkansas with some settling in Missouri, Texas, California or Georgia. I am a sixth (6) Great Granddaughter of Chief Doublehead. My Grandmother Otta Gertrude (Keys) Flaherty and my Great Grandfather Williamson Roland Winston Cobb (WRWC) Keys were both original enrollees of the Dawes Rolls. WRWC enrolled himself as 1/32 Cherokee, whereas, his sister Rebecca Alice (Keys) Boothe enrolled herself as 1/8 and another sister Linnie Jane (Keys) Crail
My Great Great Grandfather Richard Keys and my Great Grandfather WRWC Keys and their families settled down in the Muldrow, Oklahoma area. Both Richard and WRWC are buried at Cottonwood Cemetery in Muldrow along with WRWC's brotherTheodore Syphian and Theodore's young son John. My Grandmother's allotted land was sold by her first husband Henry Edward Cole. Otta was considered a minor since she was only 17 so there wasn't much she could do about it. I have been researching the KEYS family for several years. Started with my applying for Tribal cards for my father, daughter and myself through my Grandmother's roll number. Took two years to complete since no one had updated her file in so long but I finally got the cards. Now I help other cousins of mine who also share Otta as a grandmother obtain their cards. I have also met many new cousins through my research and have become very close to many.
