The day I was born I was named after my uncle (Robert) and grandmother (Ella Jane).  Needless to say that name wasn’t Khandi.  My family started calling me Candy because my brother called me that the day I came home from the hospital.  Over the years I changed the spelling to Khandi.  Since that time I found out there was a queen in the book of Acts called Candace. Candace was a title that referred to a line of queens (similar to Pharaoh and Caesar), not the name of a particular queen.

From the hereditary title of the queens of Ethiopia, as mentioned in Acts in the NewTestament, Candace is apparently derived from the Cushitic kdke meaning “queen mother”.  In some versions of the Bible it is spelled Kandake, reflecting the Greek spelling  : Κανδακη . . It was used as a given name by the Puritans after the Protestant Reformation.  It was popularized in the 20 th century by a character in the movie ‘Meet the Stewarts’ (1942).  http://www.behindthename.com/glossary/view/protestant_reformation
