Traditionally, t he Quw’utsun’ People were extensively involved in forestry. We proudly carry on this part of the Quw’utsun’ heritage, creating more jobs for our people while elevating the industry. With a commitment to economic and environmentally sustainable principles, KFS contributes to improved forest health and timber yields while conserving the wildlife habitat of the region.
KFS has a particular focus on refreshing our forests and encouraging new growth, utilizing Khowutzun Freegro Tree Shelters to protect vulnerable tree seedlings and restore the natural habitat of these lands. These durable shelters have an average lifespan of 15 years, offering sustainable solutions for reforestation efforts in the Cowichan Valley. Khowutzun Forest Services is owned by the Cowichan Tribes, the largest First Nation Band in BC with over 4,900 community members. KFS provides significant employment opportunities to the Cowichan Valley, contributing to the economic growth of the region with one of the largest labour pools in the Nation. We are committed to upholding sustainable resource management practices and making meaningful contributions to the communities we serve.
