Praised for her performances with “exceptional maturity and a lovely voice” (Opera Canada, 2013), mezzo soprano Kristina Agur has cemented her reputation as a versatile performer. Recent highlights include singing Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (Muskoka Opera Festival), Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte (COSI), and Mrs. Nolan in Menotti’s The Medium (U of T Opera).
Kristina has shown a proclivity for Russian repertoire, beginning as the Gypsy Woman and chorus in Rachmaninoff’s Aleko with Opera5. Kristina has also shown a particular interest in contemporary works, premiering the roles of The Voice of the Central Committee ( The Machine Stops ) and Hannah Campbell ( Footsteps in Campbell House ). She has also sung the roles of Cousin Hebe in HMS Pinafore , Madame Lidoine in Dialogues des Carmélites , Mistress of the Novices in Suor Angelica , and Cherubino in Le Nozze d
Kristina holds a Master of Music (Opera Performance) and a Bachelor of Music (Voice Performance) from the University of Toronto, where she studied with Wendy Nielsen and J. Patrick Raftery. Before beginning her studies in voice, Kristina completed her Bachelor of Environmental Science at McMaster University. It was there she got her first taste of solo vocal performance as the alto soloist in Vivaldi’s Gloria as a member of the McMaster University Choir.
