A little bit of history: Wood carving, sculpture and painting are centuries-old traditions in Val Gardena and the Ladin valley has produced several artists over the years, one of whom is Francesco Demetz La Rives, whose birthplace was the former “La Rives” farmstead. The world-renowned artist was even celebrated as the Dürer of the 20th century at the 1983 Art Expo in New York.
