Annual surveys for the southwestern willow flycatcher at the Las Vegas Wash began in June and they're picking up the pace set by earlier surveys of the Yuma Ridgway’s rail.
Biologists have identified a record three territories so far - two more than the previously recorded - occupied by at least five birds, a nest, and one egg.
Combined with the ongoing success over recent years, survey results confirm the positive impacts of nearly 25 years of investment by the Las Vegas Wash Coordination Committee in stabilization, revegetation and management activities at the Wash.
