Born in Barcelona, Lydia Masanet is a professor of Languages and Literatures at Mercer University in the U.S. Her speciality is women's autobiography in contemporary Spanish literature, about which she has extensively written and lectured . Noted for her literary criticism, La autobiografía femenina española contemporànea (1998), Masanet is well referenced by writers around the world. In 2008, she was asked to write an honorarium for the famed Catalan writer Mercedes Salisachs for her publication Espéculo.
