One of the most magical things about Oakland, overall, is that it’s so many different things at once. In a day you can walk from the parts of Oakland that are bustling new to the parts that feel almost forgotten. It’s a city full of histories, with tons of buildings to explore.
For this date we started with something Heather’s wanted to do since we moved to Oakland, which is a tour of the Paramount Theater on Broadway. The Paramount gives 2 hour tours every first and third Saturday of the month, starting at 10 am sharp, for $5 per person (Cash Only). The tour takes you from the lobby, which is a pretty astounding work of art deco, through to the lobbies, to the theater, and ends down in the backstage area. Everything has been restored and preserved from the original 1930’s arch
Afterwards we moseyed over to the Stag’s Luncheonette, for a little fancy sandwich action. Heather had smoked fish and a bagel. I had a grill cheese. Not a lot of seating but a good selection of beverages.
