Maltby Town Council serves the residents of Maltby East and West. The area is covered by two tiers of local government: Rotherham Metropolitan District Council (RMBC) Maltby Town Council. The two tiers provide different services and Maltby Town Council works in partnership with RMBC, as well as other relevant public service agencies and voluntary organisations.

Maltby Town Council consists of 18 elected representatives holding a public office giving their time voluntarily. The Council carries out a range of duties as part of the local government service, to meet the needs of its residents and promote community well-being. The Council operates on a Committee basis, covering different aspects of Town/Parish Council responsibilities.
