My goal in all that I do is to make a difference. Professionally, I am an experienced leader in healthcare and research. My focus for more than 25 years has been the application of informatics and technology to improve health. My work experience is balanced between industry, where I served as Vice President, and academic settings where I have serve in senior leadership and faculty roles.
I advocate for a concept that I refer to as the “Envirome “. The envirome is the analysis of contextual factors that influence health outcomes. These factors can be social determinants of health (SDOH) or environmental conditions. My TEDx talk about the Envirome is an overview of my thoughts on the topic. Now I am expanding on the Envirome to focus on research and health equity. In addition to these areas, I am active in work related to Ethical AI .
My Google Scholar profile serves as a good summary of my academic work. I specialize in the use of massive de-identified electronic health record (EHR) data, the integration of genomic and clinical information and applications of augmented reality. An emerging theme of my research is using data science to understand the gap between “real world” clinical practice and ideal behaviors.
