The Medical Benevolent Association of NSW (MBANSW) is a registered ACNC charity run by Doctors for Doctors and their families. MBANSW provides counselling and short-term financial assistance through times of crisis, illness, accident, mental health conditions, grief and loss of income to help Doctors and their families in NSW and ACT to recover and return to independence and wherever possible their vocation.
A career in medicine comes with a range of challenges: the demanding training pathway; the complex medical culture; long hours; dealing with life-threatening situations and stressed patients. Add to this load the global pandemic; healthcare workers leaving in droves; multiple natural disasters; a drastic shortage of GPs and regional doctors; and unrelenting negative press and we have the ingredients for a perfect storm.
This perfect storm has seen the MBANSW experience a 144% increase in demand over the past three years .
