Such microtools range from medical microrobots to smart sensor-actuator systems. Our research topics Medical Microrobots Medical Microrobots Medical microrobots are microscopic

By employing sophisticated microfabrication techniques highly compact and miniaturized 3D sensors and platforms are developed for the study of biological cells and tissue development under applied physical and/or chemical cues. The purpose of those sensors is to detect very low amounts of relevant analytes such as cancer biomarkers, infectious diseases and single cells, in real samples.

By combining the advantages of lab-on-a-chip devices with the concepts of tissue engineering, the aim of this research topic is to mimic certain functions and anatomies of human organs employing primary cells, to enable the validation of novel non-invasive theragnostic tools for precise and personalized medicine, minimizing in the process the use of animal models.
