The first 450 class race held at RedBud was on April 28,1974. When Kenny Zahrt swept the motos on his blue Bultaco. Eventual Champ (then 250cc) Gary Jones was fast but could not match Zarht's "blazing speed" and settled for second on his Can-Am. Ron Pomeroy's Bultaco placed third. Frank Stacy's Ossa came in fourth. While Peter Lamppu's Maico rounded out the top 5 that day.
