Located in downtown Louisville, The Brown Hotel has the distinction of being a member of Historic Hotels of America and the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1923 by owner James Graham Brown, at a cost of 4 million dollars, the iconic hotel was designed by architect Preston J. Bradshaw in a English Renaissance style with a Georgian Revival exterior. Sitting on the corner of Fourth and Broadway in the theater district, it continues to be a vibrant part of Louisville history, past and present.
The long ornate two-story lobby features not only the check-in desk, but also nooks and crannies where guests can relax in plush deep garnet colored sofas amid dark antique furniture. A combo bar – dining area is located near the end of the lobby. The hand painted ceiling in gold and cream colors hold magnificent chandeliers. Floor to ceiling windows framed by deep garnet drapes add to the elegance of the lobby area.
