Malaysian Social Research Institute - formerly known as Malaysian Sociological Research Institute - was founded on November 24, 1959, by the late Dato' Dr Alijah Gordon. The main purpose of the Institute was to promote Malaysian culture, and assist Malaysian authors who were at the forefront of Malaysian writing to publish works on Malaysian culture, history, religion, and customs. On June 29, 2004, Malaysian Sociological Research Institute was renamed and registered as Malaysian Social Research Institute (

It is our mission to implement and support innovative and impactful solutions for social issues. We are focused on championing action-based and participatory research projects for social protection activities that provide essential services to better support the displaced and marginalized in living dignified lives.
