The Interactive Museum of Cultural History of Kerala popularly known as "Keralam Museum" was established by the Govt. of Kerala in 2011 as an autonomous body under the Cultural Affairs Ministry. It is the first Thematic and Interactive Museum in Kerala, showcasing various aspects of the culture and heritage of the state.
Apart from maintaining a museum of international standards it is also spearheading the initiative for bringing professionalism in the modernisation of the existing museums and the setting up of new museums in the State and Central sectors.
The Keralam Museum has been recognized as the nodal agency of all the museums under the Cultural Affairs Dept. by the Government of Kerala as per G.O (RT) No.69/12/CAD dated 04.02.2012. The Government has also directed that hereafter the development works of all the museums be done through Keralam Museum and also authorised Keralam Museum to "act as a consulting and executing agency for the protection, restoration and exhibition in the field of Archaeology, Archives, Museology and built Cultural Heritage".
