On the morning of 22 February 2011, the whenua (earth) of Ōtautahi/Christchurch shook with a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that forever changed the city. What lay in the wake of this devastation was a city beset by both human loss, as well as the physical void of empty spaces, vacant lots and scenes reminiscent of a warzone.
However, what this also created was a unique opportunity for both mana whenua and the wider community to reflect, rebuild and reset.
In March 2018, both Ngāi Tūāhuriri and Ngāti Wheke will play host to Ngā Aho and welcome manuhiri to Maahunui Marae, Tuahiwi as well as Wheke Marae, Rāpaki, for a truly unique event for all who work, live and are inspired by the indigenous design field.
