National Capital Area Council, BSA delivers the promise of Scouting to youth in the Washington, D.C., metro area, including the District of Columbia, 16 counties in Maryland and Virginia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and U.S. citizens abroad in North and South America. Our programs teach young people to “be prepared!” for adventure, education, service, and leadership.

When air quality alerts are issued, Scout leaders should refer to the SAFE Checklist and its Safety Moment to determine if an activity is safe. Leaders should review local area guidance for their county (or the county in which the potential outdoor activity will be held.) Units and Districts should refrain from outdoor and strenuous activities if the air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments issues air quality warnings for our geographic area:  https://www.m
