In 1870, Bamforth & Co Ltd a publishing, film and illustration company, was established in Holmfirth. The company started making silent monochrome films with the Riley Brothers of Bradford and by 1915, they had made in excess of 100 silent movies, surpassing Hollywood in quantity and quality.
In 1910, they started making their most famous products to date – illustrated ‘saucy’ seaside postcards all the way up to 1980s.
In 1988, the Bamforth building closed its doors for the last time and laid derelict for over 30 years (almost crumbling into the hillside).
