Pictured here is 10 year old JJ fishing at Wellesley Island State Park. He spends his whole time fishing and teaching his little brothers and cousins to fish. He looks forward to it all year and we have to pull the pole from his hands to go hiking and swimming. He has caught some big enough to filet and can't wait till he is old enough to buy a boat and catch the bigger fish!
Wellesley Island State Park is the largest camping complex in the Thousand Islands region with 432 campsites. Within this rustic paradise, fishing is excellent--particularly for perch, smallmouth bass, pike, and muskie. To accommodate boaters, the park has a full-service marina and four boat launches. A sandy beach on the river offers great swimming and sunbathing.
St. Lawrence River is located at northeastern tip of the Lake Ontario. This is the main outlet for Lake Ontario. Here the river begins 1,200-mile course into the Atlantic Ocean. The St. Lawrence is home to a wide variety of warmwater fish species including muskellunge, walleye, smallmouth, largemouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, crappies, and bullheads. These species are plentiful here and can be caught by boating anglers, or by shore fishermen from docks and piers.
