Ong Kian Peng is an artist based in Singapore. Working at the intersection of art, technology, and the environment, he creates immersive and reflective environments that offer alternate visions and imaginations of our relationship with nature. Since 2017, he has been running Supernormal.space, an independent art space focusing on emerging and experimental art practice. Ong graduated from UCLA with an MFA in Design Media Art. The Viscous Sea is a six-channel film installation that explores the Dead Sea as a site of ecological disaster. The notion of dying plays a central role in the work. What does it mean for elemental water bodies to die? Can the Dead sea die again? Who are the actors involved in the events leading up to its decline? And what future awaits the Dead Sea?
