OpenMach is an experimental operating system developed with the goal of advancing operating system research. It is based on the UK22 release of Mach 4 released on March 29, 1996. This project builds on the ideas from the original Mach kernel at Carnegie Mellon University, the later Mach 4 kernel from University of Utah, and design philosophies from systems that have emerged in recent years that show considerable promise. The result will be a very small, privileged kernel coupled with tightly knit user mode
