Pia Pircher, born in Vienna, is a viol player, artist and researcher on viol music. Fascinated since her early childhood by sounds and music, she developed a keen interest while growing up into the aestatically and philosophical origin and as well as the cultural background of arts, and the expressivity of music, especially in particular on the viol. Exploring the diversity of sounds and expressions on the viol, Pia鈥檚 aim is to find a contemporary approach to the instrument and her own speech on it.
Pia studied with Vittorio Ghielmi at the University Mozarteum Salzburg, where she received the Master of Arts with distinction in 2013 and a PhD in 2019. Further her studies brought her to the Royal College of Music London (Richard Boothby, Reiko Ichise), where she was awarded in 2014 the Artist Diploma and the Musikhochschule Trossingen (Lorenz Duftschmid), where she completed the diploma with honors in 2011. She has performed with ensembles including Le concert des nations, English Touring Opera, Armonico Tributo Austria, Staatskapelle Dresden, with artists such as Dorothee Oberlinger, Hiro Kurosaki, Jordi Savall, Reinhard Goebel and Vittorio Ghielmi. Pia has performed in venues across Europe and the Far East including the Royal Albert Hall, Semperoper Dresden, Barockfestspiele Bad Arolsen and Salzburger Festspiele as both a chamber musician and soloist.
